School Exchange
One of the highlights of the group homestay program is the exchange with local schools. School visits range from half and full day exchanges to full immersion and class participation, depending on the purpose of the group. All school programs are coordinated by Lets Homestay and escorted by local staff when required.
Half or Full Day Visits
Visitors are met by the head teacher and
principal. Local students take visitors
for a tour of the school. Visitors are
split into small groups and assigned a class to
be with for the day. There is usually a
chance for the visitors to make a presentation
to their class about their country. After
lunch sports or group activities are enjoyed.
Short Term School Attendance
Groups attending school from 2 days to 3 or 4
weeks. Students are normally split up 1 or
2 to each class. A class buddy is assigned
and the students partake in normal class
routine. Depending on the program group
ESL lessons can be arranged and held
periodically.
Powhiri
On arrival groups may be privileged enough to
receive a formal "Powhiri". This a welcome
ceremony based on Maori customs and culture.
In the Powhiri is is customary for the visiting
group to make a speech and sing a song or two
form your own culture.
